PLA2 catalyzes the calcium-dependent hydrolysis of the 2-acyl groups in 3-sn-phosphoglycerides. The secretion of this protein into venom follows a seasonal pattern. This variation is synchronized with melittin variation, i.e. their production increase in the same months.
