Human T cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is a deltaretrovirus that in some infected individuals causes an aggressive adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma or a progressive demyelinating disease known as HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis.
