Influenza B virus hemagglutinin (IBV HA) is a trimeric glycoprotein expressed on the surface of influenza virus. This protein is crucial for the spread of influenza viruses. IBV HA has been reported to play a necessary role in the early stages of viral infection. In addition, as a crucial mediator of virus binding to cell surface receptors, IBV HA facilitates the entry of viral genomes into the cytoplasm. The binding of IBV HA to target receptors is closely related to the range of infected hosts.

Characteristics of IBV HA
Data shows that IBV HA exhibits acidic stability characteristics, which also confirms the preference of IBV HA for the human upper respiratory tract, where the pH is consistent with its growth. This preference allows the long-term survival of IBV in humans and provides new insights into the evolution of respiratory viruses.
Functions of IBV HA
IBV HA is an essential hub that mediates the binding of viruses to cells with sialic acid, such as red blood cells. It also contributes to the fusion of the viral envelope with the endosomal membrane after a change in pH. To put it simply, as a necessary medium in the virus invasion process, IBV HA functions in two aspects. First, IBV HA allows the virus to recognize the target cell, which is accomplished by binding to the receptor of the target cell. Second, IBV HA mediates the fusion of the host endosomal membrane and the viral membrane to promote virus entry into target cells.
