Product listMicrotubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) is also known as protein tau. Alternatively spliced MAPT has six major tau isoforms expressed at different abundances in the brain. Membrane-bound MAPT is primarily localized in the cytoskeleton, axon, and dendrites of neurons, whereas soluble MAPT is secreted outside the membrane. MAPT is associated with many neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease.

Targeting Strategies for MAPT Pathology
As an important protein for neurofibrillary tangles, the pathology of MAPT occurs in many neurological diseases. Therefore, numerous therapeutic candidates targeting MAPT are in development for the treatment of primary MAPT pathology and AD. Fig.1 shows the potential agents and approaches for blocking MAPT-mediated toxicity.

MAPT-related Immunotherapies
Antibodies targeting pathological MAPT could promote the degradation and clearance of aggregated MAPT with good safety and efficacy. Extracellularly, the full-length MAPT antibody could achieve the sequestration and extracellular clearance of MAPT aggregates. Intracellularly, MAPT intrabodies could disassemble the MAPT aggregates and facilitate intracellular clearance.
