Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3), a member of the genus Enterovirus within the family Picornaviridae, is a primary causative agent of viral myocarditis. In North America, viral myocarditis accounts for 20% of sudden heart failure in children and adolescents. The chronic sequela of CVB3-induced myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy, is responsible for approximately 50% of the cardiac transplants registered annually worldwide.
