This antigen is harnessed as a target for immunotherapy in the treatment of human carcinomas. Mutations in EPCAM have been associated with congenital tufting enteropathy.

EPCAM Related Signaling Pathways
EPCAM is a homophilic cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein widely recognized as a tumor antigen expressed on circulating tumor cells, cancer stem cells, and epithelial tumors. The EPCAM signaling pathway is intricately associated with the differentiation, adhesion, and proliferation of epithelial cancer cells.
