AM (Artemisinin), which is a sesquiterpene lactone, is a wellknown antimalarial compound isolated from Artemisia annua. Currently, AM and its related compounds, AS (artesunate) and artemether, are the most important drugs for the treatment of malaria and are used in artemisininbased combination therapies (ACTs) recommended by the World Health Organization.
