Der p 1 and Der f 1 are highly related allergens from the two main house dust mite species, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae, respectively. A link between the cysteine proteinase activity of Der p 1 and its allergenicity has recently been demonstrated.
