Introduction of HIV gp160

HIV envelope glycoprotein gp160 is a precursor protein encoded by the env gene. Synthesized and oligomerized into a trimeric complex, it is cleaved into its two subunits: the surface glycoprotein gp120 and the transmembrane glycoprotein gp41. This trimeric spike, found on the mature HIV virion, is essential for viral attachment and entry. The gp120 subunit binds to the host cell receptor CD4 and a co-receptor, triggering a conformational change that exposes gp41. The gp41 then mediates fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, allowing the viral core to enter. Due to its key role in viral entry, gp160 is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and a major focus for HIV vaccine development.

Our Anti-HIV gp160 Antibody Products

Antibodies targeting the HIV gp160 envelope glycoprotein are invaluable tools in virology and immunology. Their applications are broad, ranging from fundamental research to clinical diagnostics. In research, anti-gp160 antibodies are used to characterize the structure and function of the viral envelope spike, investigate its interaction with host receptors, and study the mechanisms of viral entry and immune evasion. Researchers employ them in techniques like Western blotting to detect the gp160 precursor and its cleaved subunits, and in immunofluorescence to visualize the protein's localization on infected cells. In diagnostics, antibodies specific to gp160 are utilized in high-sensitivity assays like ELISAs for the detection of HIV infection or for monitoring the patient's immune response to the virus. Furthermore, a major focus of therapeutic development is on broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) that target conserved epitopes on gp160, offering a promising avenue for passive immunization and a functional cure for HIV. Our gp160 specific antibodies are designed to support all these applications, providing a reliable foundation for your critical work.

FAQs

Q: How can antibodies against this target protein assist in my research into viral entry and host-pathogen interactions?

A: High-quality antibodies are a cornerstone of this type of research. They can be used to visualize the protein on the cell surface, quantify its expression levels, or block its interaction with host receptors, thereby providing key insights into the mechanism of viral entry and the host immune response.

Q: Are these antibodies suitable for use with different HIV isolates or subtypes?

A: The HIV envelope glycoprotein is highly variable. Our antibodies are designed to recognize and bind to conserved epitopes on the protein. We recommend inquiring about specific product details to ensure the antibody is validated for your particular strain or subtype of interest.

Q: How can these antibodies be used for vaccine development or therapeutic screening?

A: In vaccine research, these antibodies can be used to characterize the antigenicity of vaccine candidates. For therapeutic screening, they can serve as a benchmark to compare the binding affinity and specificity of newly developed molecules, such as small-molecule inhibitors or novel antibody therapeutics.

Q: Do these antibodies come with validation data for their performance in various applications?

A: Yes, each product is accompanied by a detailed datasheet with a range of validation data, including Western blot, ELISA, and other relevant application results, to ensure you have the necessary information to get started with confidence.

Q: Can I use these antibodies for detecting viral load in clinical samples?

A: While our products are primarily for research use, they are developed with the precision and specificity needed for diagnostic applications. We encourage you to contact us directly to discuss your specific project needs and regulatory requirements.
