CitS is a multitopic membrane protein of the helix-bundle type with relatively short loops connecting the trans-membrane segments. This well studied member of the2-hydroxycarboxylate transporter (2HCT) family facilitatesthe symport of citrate and sodium ions, allowing the bacteriato use citrate as the sole carbon source.
