Immunoglobulin M (IgM) is a basic antibody that is produced by B cells. IgM is by far the physically largest antibody in the human circulatory system. IgM is one of several isotypes of antibody (also known as immunoglobulin) that are produced by vertebrates. It is the first antibody to appear in the response to initial exposure to an antigen.
