Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a highly contagious coronavirus that causes severe diarrhea and death in neonatal piglets. The S protein is a type I glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in virus attachment, entry, receptor binding, cell membrane fusion and induction of neutralizing antibodies.
