Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) is the strain of virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The SARS-related coronavirus is a positive and single stranded RNA virus belonging to a family of enveloped coronaviruses. The matrix protein is a component of the viral envelope that plays a central role in virus morphogenesis and assembly via its interactions with other viral proteins.
