Inhibin Beta B Subunit (INHBB) is a secreted component joining with the alpha subunit to form a dimeric complex of activins or inhibins. Activins activate the secretion of follitropin, while inhibins play an opposite role. INHBB plays important modulating roles in tumor development and progression.
Its Gene ID: 3625, UniProtKB ID: P09529, and OMIM ID: 147390.
INHBB has a high therapeutic potential to promote tumor elimination in various cancers. INHBB knockdown could activate the TGF-β pathway and elicit a series of pro-tumor responses shown in Figure 1.
Fig.1 Diminished INHBB promotes tumor progression through the TGF-β pathway.1
Activin B (βB / βB dimers) and inhibin B (α / βB dimers) are encoded by INHBB and INHAB / INHBB, respectively. The matured activin B and inhibin B play extensive physiological and pathological roles.
